Superintendent of Student Services Date _____November 5, 2006 Summary and relationship to the curriculum: This position serves as a liaison between school, home, and community to deliver social services to children and youth to prevent, minimize and/or remove psychological, social, and economic barriers to educational achievement in support of the system’s mission. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Provides interventions based on need and priority to help with home, school, or personal adjustment problem. Interventions may include home visit, conference with school personnel, or referral to local or state agencies. Works with school personnel in identifying potential dropouts and encourage individual guidance to identified students. Consults with school staff to develop effective intervention plans relating to problem area. Serves as home, school and community liaison for at-risk families. Assesses home environment as it may relate to school-related difficulty. Gathers data for assessment purposes. Maintains a working knowledge of state law and Board Policy regarding child welfare. Works collaboratively with other departments in addressing the needs of at-risk students. Performs any other duties assigned by the Lead Psychologist and the Assistant Superintendent for Student Services. Education and/or Experience: Master’s degree or higher in social services or related field. Certificate or License Required: As required by the Professional Standards Commission: A professional service certificate in School Social Work as issued by the Professional Standards Commission and/or a valid State of Georgia Social Workers license issued by the Examining Boards Division of the Office of the Secretary of State and completion of Basic Sills Assessments and Special Georgia Requirements. Language Skills: Must have exceptional problem resolution skills, ability to apply social working principles to support the understanding of learning and behavior, ability to relay technical information to others in understandable terms, and ability to work effectively with colleagues and staff. Must have ability to write professional correspondences and reports. Must have ability to effectively present information in one-to-one and group situations to students, parents, school personnel and community agencies. Mathematical Skills: Must have knowledge and understanding of general statistical procedures. Must have ability to collect and analyze assessment data, predict outcomes, formulate strategies for obtaining a desired result, and report/present findings in print and chart/graph. Reasoning Ability: Must be able to facilitate the problem solving processes. Must have ability to synthesize workable options from given facts, and assist in the development of workable solutions to address concerns. Technical Ability: Must have considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office Products. Knowledge of research methodology is desirable. Customer Service Skills: Must be capable of interacting effectively with administrators, teachers, staff members, students, parents, and the general public using tactful and helpful customer service. Professional Requirements: Must serve as a role model to students. Desirable personal characteristics are required. Appropriate dress and grooming consistent with established standards required. Must be at work on time. Must meet attendance standards. Must conduct activities safely.
