Employment Relationship:  After-School Program (ASP) employees are hired for a pre-established period, and are assigned a variety of roles.  They are ineligible for benefits and holiday pay.   

 

Summary and relationship to the curriculum: All positions will strengthen the delivery of instruction to support the system mission.  This position assists with the supervision and instruction of students enrolled in the After-School Program. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Works cooperatively with the After-School Program staff.
  1. Provides a safe and positive environment.
  1. Supervises students during transitions from the school day to the after school program as well as during after school activities and
  1. Plans and actively facilitates developmentally appropriate learning opportunities for ASP students including, but not limited to, homework support and literacy enrichment.
  1. Assists with all aspects of the daily routine, including distributing and collecting supplies, serving snacks, and housekeeping duties.
  1. Prepares and organizes materials and supplies for ASP activities.
  1. Follows established guidelines regarding the collection, receipt, and documentation of any ASP financial payments.
  1. Performs other duties as requested by the principal and/or site coordinator.

 

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 

 

a) Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED).   Bachelor’s degree preferred.  Successful experience working with children in a formal educational setting.  Teaching or paraprofessional experience preferred.  A student worker should be currently enrolled in a Houston County high school or a college and be between the ages of 16 and 21.


b) Certificate or License Required: N/A

c) Language Skills: Must have ability to read and comprehend job specific technical information, simple instructions, short correspondence, memos and position specific manuals.  Must have ability to write correspondence and reports. Must have ability to effectively articulate and present information in one-on-one and small group situations.

d) Mathematical Skills: Must have ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole number, common fractions, and decimals.  Must have ability to conduct position related data analysis. Must have ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. 

OR Must have the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide.

e) Reasoning Ability: Must be able to facilitate the problem solving processes. Must have ability to synthesize workable options from given facts, and assist in the development of workable solutions.

f) Technical Ability: Must have considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office and other job specified technologies. 

g) Customer Service Skills: Must be able to interact effectively with colleagues, administrators, teachers, staff members, students using tactful yet effective skills. Must collaborate well with others and display a cooperative attitude. Must be service oriented and actively seek ways to assist others.

 

Professional Requirements:  Must serve as a role model to students. Appropriate dress and grooming consistent with established standards required. 

 

Physical Demands:  The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, and lift.  Occasionally, the employee must crouch or kneel.  The employee must be able to exert or lift up to 50 pounds.

 

Work Environment:  The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Frequent travel involves exposure to traffic and outdoor elements. 

 

Travel to home sites, school sites, and other locations is required.

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently working in outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
